Optimal Fiber Length

Biomechanics

Short definition

Fiber length at which the muscle produces maximal active force.

Full definition

Optimal fiber length is the fiber length at the peak of the force-length curve. In Hill-type models it is where the normalized active-force-length equals 1, and is a model-identification parameter.

Examples

Biceps optimal fiber length is about 13 cm.
