Pelvis

Pelvis — the pelvic ring

Anatomy

Short definition

Bony ring (sacrum, ilia, pubes) — the spine's base and the leg's anchor.

Full definition

Pelvis — a bony ring of the sacrum, ilia, pubes and ischia, supporting the spine from below and joining the femurs (hip joints). It anchors the erectors, glutes, adductors, deep hip flexors, core (thoracolumbar fascia) and gastrocnemius (via fascia). Pelvis stability underlies posture and the transfer of force from the legs into the trunk.

Examples

Holding the hip angle in a squat — glutes and core work.
